Once acquired by VMware, GemStone was given a healthy marketing budget. I wrote a brief on turning GemFire, GemStone's in-memory data grid, into what would be called a Managed Service today and presented to VMware/SpringSource leaders. This was a bit too forward thinking for them and I found it difficult to make things happen in this new structure. I didn't stay long and instead founded my own company (above).
GemStone pioneered the first enterprise-level in-memory data grid system. GemStone was acquired by VMware in May 2010 and has been integrated into their Pivotal business. I began there as an intern and was offered a full time position 3 months later.
